John Spiropoulos, Reporter/Producer

The Money Beat

I'm a former TV news reporter, writer and producer with 50 years experience in news and public policy reporting. I've piled up a few awards, including three local Emmys, in my half-century of work.

  • In Washington, D.C. I was the boots-on-the-ground field reporter covering all the money issues for WJLA-TV,  local ABC affiliate. My beat was Personal Finance, the Economy, Federal Budget and Taxes. I did that for 10 years.
  •  Earlier in my career I wrote and produced the 6pm or 11pm news at TV stations in Washington, DC; Detroit, Miami and Louisville. Full Bio below.

Special Projects Through the Years

CyberCrime Fighting

I wrote, directed and produced a package of 36 videos teaching Federal, State and Local Law Enforcement how to detect and  investigate Internet and Computer Crime.

  • The project featured real world criminal cases and how state and local police agencies solved them.
  • The program showed how digital evidence played a critical role in getting convictions in a wide spectrum of cases from fraud to child porn to homicide.
  • The videos were shot on location with state and local police technology crime specialists in ten states from New York to California.
  • "CyberCrime Fighting" was produced for the  National White Collar Crime Center and funded by the U,S. Department of Justice.

College Freshman Survival Guide

Five major universities purchased this video series for their freshman class. The videos, three to seven minutes in length, are now available for free on my YouTube channel.

  • The videos feature interviews with dozens of students and professors at twelve colleges and universities.
  • They offer time-tested, practical tips on how to study, how to take various types of tests, where to sit in class, how to take notes, how to write college-level papers, etc.
  • An added plus,  there are print Summaries and Learning Point PDFs for all the videos at this link in Dropbox.
